The Hong Kong Parent’s Guide to Sisu

How to help a child practise meeting difficulty, making judgements and asking for support—without creating anxiety or manufacturing hardship.

01

Not a travel brochure dressed up as education

The guide begins with questions parents genuinely need to understand. What is sisu, why is it not a demand that a child keep going, which challenges are worth preserving, and which hazards remain an adult responsibility?

Even if your family never joins The Sisu Rally, the guide should help you make more considered decisions in everyday life.

02

Inside the guide

The material is organised to be clear, practical and appropriately modest, so families can read and discuss it at their own pace.

  • What sisu is—and what it is not
  • Why children need suitable challenge, not more suffering
  • Three automatic parent responses worth noticing
  • The basic questions behind safe challenge
  • Small practices a family can begin at home
  • How to recognise real learning design in an outdoor programme
  • How to reflect with a child after an experience
  • The design philosophy of The Sisu Rally
03

Begin with three questions

The next time a child is stuck, when safety and time allow, ask: what feels hardest, what is one small step you could try, and would you like me to take over, give a clue or think alongside you?

These questions are not magic and do not apply when an adult needs to intervene immediately. Their value is to turn automatic rescue into a shared judgement.

04

Less data, clearer purpose

Only a first name and email address are required to join the guide launch list. WhatsApp and a child age range are optional and should never affect registration.

If you choose to receive later information, the purpose and opt-out route will be stated clearly. Submitting the form is not programme registration and does not authorise unrelated use of family information.

05

Continue at your own pace

After reading, you may stop there or continue into sisu, learning design and the Family Rally. Good conversion does not force every reader into an immediate conversation; it makes an appropriate next step clear.
